I’ve been thinking about blogs as ePortfolios for quite awhile, in a WSU blog system (now defunct) and here, here and here on the Educause blog site in posts going back as far as Feb 15, 2005. In the earliest of those I reported on Washington State University blogging experiment:We (CTLT) began hosting a university blogging tool last August. Because we had an [OSPI] ePortfolio initiative underway at the same time, I tried to keep our smaller blogging project out of the ePortfolio space, but I came to understand that was not possible.

With recession on its peak budgets of educational institutions are tighting up, it only makes sense that many schools/colleges are turning to Linux and open source software(for example ANDC ) to save money. Its not only for saving money but also to promote FOSS and provide students(espically Computer Science students) an exposure to open source softwares so that they can learn how programming is done in the outside world. Most people have no idea how many outstanding educational applications there are for the Linux operating system.

Blackboard was upgraded over the summer; the new version of Blackboard is similar to the previous version. Those who use the gradebook (renamed the Grade Center) and the Discussion Board will notice the biggest changes. This upgrade is to ensure that Blackboard, Inc. will continue to provide support for our system. There are many ways to get help.

http://www.smartmusic.com/smartmusic/New.aspx SmartMusic 2010 went out the door of MakeMusic yesterday! Maybe you go the e-mail. The timing of this event was perfect for me. I like to get this rolling with my students early in the fall and it looks new enough to make my old handouts out-of-date. I will need to update my demos for the students. I have had a look at 2010 and it was a big upgrade this time around. MakeMusic has spent a lot of time and effort at making this product more useful and easier to use.
