We view Google Apps for Education as both a product and a platform. That’s why we work hard to open up lots of integration points, letting our tools interact with other systems used by our Education customers . For example, we’ve supported work that has integrated Google Apps into environments such as Moodle . We also share a large number of APIs to allow integration into our user management system, and many of our individual apps like Google Docs and Google Calendar.

As a kid, I loved James Bond movies (I still like the old ones), especially the gadgetry . A shoe compartment, a multi-purpose watch, a micro camera. The MOMO (Mobile Moodle) project is an Add-On to the popular Moodle Learning Management System. It brings the ability to implement mobile learning scenarios with Moodle as a backend. Mobile users install the MOMO client, a JAVA based application, on their mobile phones (or any other JAVA and Internet capable device). Through this client they can access courses wherever they are, which allows completely new scenarios. Administrators install the necessary MOMO extension on their Moodle server which makes the compatible contents available for mobile usage.

An article on Inside Higher Ed about Blackboard’s annual user meeting mentions some of the issues I have seen and heard of with Blackboard. The writer says The questioner said that when small fixes aren’t made, faculty members get discouraged. Another commenter told the Blackboard executives that it becomes difficult to argue to top level university administration that Blackboard is a “mission-critical” system when it continues to break in key places.

One survey some time back, found that 55 percent of employers preferred traditional degree programs. The term online degrees refers to college degrees (sometimes including high school diplomas and non-degree certificate programs) that can be earned primarily or entirely through the use of a computer that’s connected to the Internet, rather than attending college in a traditional campus setting. According to one report, about two-thirds of the largest institutions now have fully online degree programs, there are also certain plug in options that it provides.

I haven’t yet really had the time to fully digest all of what took place this summer at NECC 2009 in Washington. I attended with Bea Cantor and we’ll certainly have a lot to apply towards professional development this year and beyond. A record 18,500+ educators and exhibit personnel attended the 30th anniversary NECC 2009 held in Washington, DC. Deputy CEO and NECC conference chair Leslie Conery called it an “odds-defying” event in difficult economic times and lauded educators for their energy and commitment.

Having received approval to port BAM into Moodle, the first step is to get a Moodle development environment installed on my laptop. I’m meant to be getting a new one this week, however, local IT hasn’t been forthcoming in when this is going to be available. Can’t wait, I only have two days a week to work on this, and today is the last one this week. What’s the advice So, what’s the advice from the Moodle community for getting started? I’m going to follow the process embedded in the Intro to Moodle Programming course.
